We will journey through rarely visited sites, not on your typical bus tour, and recently discovered sites in God's Promised Land. This class is certain to spark your interest and ignite your passion for one of the most amazing and storied places on Earth. Tim and his wife Rachael have led 12 group tours spending over 25 weeks in Israel. During these trips, they have become friends with many influential people in the archaeological community who have provided the experiences Tim will be sharing with you during this class. This is Tim’s first class at ELM and he is excited to share this journey with you.
First, we are going to explore Northern Israel and create a foundation on which the rest of the classes will be built. Not only do we want to see what Israel holds, but understand why these places are so important. We will visit the Sea of Galilee and discuss the ruins of Capernaum, Chorazin, Bethsaida, Hippos, Zippori, the Golan Heights and other sites.
Southern Israel holds discoveries most people never see. We are going to journey through the Old Testament and visit places such as Timnah, Tamar, the Valley of the Dry Bones, the Gilgal and other unbelievable sites. We will even venture into Jordan which holds discoveries related to ancient biblical Israel. For those of you who have some Bible knowledge, this will be very exciting!!
Anybody who has been to Israel has visited Jerusalem. This bustling city is home to 3 of the world’s most influential religions and holds treasures most tourists never visit. We will make an in-depth exploration of The City of David, seeing recent discoveries from the amazing excavation going on now in Jerusalem. We will discuss Solomon’s Quarry (Zedekiah’s Cave), Solomon’s Pools, the pool of Siloam, the crucifixion site, Sodom’s Cave and the Dead Sea among many other incredible places.
Tim Gelinas is the President of Senior Financial Planning, LLC. He has been teaching senior adult classes for 6 years at Brenau and Emory and recently has started teaching in Roswell. Tim is a former ordained campus minister at The University of Georgia. Tim has been married to his wife Rachael for 20 years, enjoys golf & traveling, and is a graduate of The University of Georgia.
