Are you delighted by dogs? By providing opportunities to interact with and be educated by working dog experts, this class is intended to enlighten and engage attendees with the various fields in which pooches work. We will seek learning from a wide variety of experts: K9 training, therapy dogs, Search and Rescue and more. There is no shortage of areas where dogs have a heroic impact and we hope to provide a wide-angle panorama of subjects. Come join us and learn how the human-canine bond allows dogs to be man's best friend and protector.
We're excited to host a session which celebrates our valiant pooches. By learning more about various subjects each week, "Heroic Dogs Unleashed" is designed to engage canine-captivated participants and educate them regarding the skills, dedication, and perseverance that is required of a true working dog.
The class will incorporate a range of activities: lectures, guest speakers, audio-visuals, and discussion. Professional dog handlers, trainers, and supporters will serve as our guides.
Some of our planned guests include a Search and Rescue handler who is working with his third German shepherd dog and has many successful finds over a twenty-year career, a K-9 cop, and a Therapy Dog owner. We hope to have many presenters and dogs come in person, however, with time and travel limitations, we may have to resort to distance-learning in some instances. Our goal is to introduce a new subject each week and if you're delighted with dogs, I think you will enjoy it.
No supplies are needed, however please bring your enthusiasm. We plan to schedule a visit to the military working dog kennels at Fort Benning, Columbus, GA during the summer after the class sessions are concluded, if there is any interest. (This trip will be on our own and is not ELM-affiliated.)
If discovery and learning excite you then this class is for you. Come join us and walk alongside heroic dogs.
About the Instructor:
Dixie Whitman dreams of spending her days crisscrossing the USA, visiting military working dog kennels, national parks, glorious gardens, and spotting wild herds of animals. Instead, she spends a majority of her days herding cats at home.
When she's not herding cats or plotting travels, Dixie designs her butterfly garden, enjoys her bluebird trail, pursues photography, and enjoys time with friends. She shares her home turf with Jerry, her talented hubby, and the cats who keep finding their way to her doorstep.
Dixie has taken several classes with ELM, hopes to give back by teaching, and is excited to continue on this journey.
