Leave a family legacy, become a detective and learn your family history. Gain strength and encouragement through new-found knowledge about how they survived immense hardships and impossible moves that got them to your location/generation. We will discuss all the free genealogical websites but concentrate primarily on two short-cut possibilities that will get you quick results.
Find out about your ancestors
Genealogy or Family History has become a major project for many families around the world. This new-found interest of millions of people has created many new business entities to fill the need for missing facts and information about our ancestors. The internet has served as the preferred source of world-wide dissemination of these new facts as they quickly become available.
The first obvious fact is that you will need a computer to facilitate the gathering of this internet information that is now available from many sources. No longer will you need to take a pen/pencil and drive to a state/church or federal agency to tediously look at microfische to find ancient information about relatives. After you finally found the elusive information you had to print out the poor quality print available. Not all information is available online yet but it is being added daily. The list continues to grow online at an amazing pace.
Discover the new tools that are available
Our goal in the class is to get you started so you can swiftly locate, in a day or so, more information than you could possibly find in ten years of the old slow travel/search/find and record methods. Equally important is the fact material is already in final print-out form – no more misspelled illegible print – simple print out on acid free paper for insertion into an acid free archival display sleeve that fits perfectly into your Family Genealogy notebook that will last for many generations.
Our two major goals will be to first find out and select the best free sources of genealogy information available. Secondly, we will select the one best cost effective paid online source or subscription for additional quality information available. Our first priority will begin with a free source so that we can see what quality information can be found there. We will also discuss other free sources and finally consider the best paid subscription source.
This class is not for just beginners, it is for those with basic knowledge of genealogy but have a need of learning where to locate new quick quality sources of missing information, and how to gather, organize, use and display it in the most presentable way possible. There is no textbook and no cost for same. The only expense will be equipping yourself for success as a Genealogist with the necessary basics to insure quick success. This would include a computer and possibly a paid subscription to Ancestry or other Genealogy subscription.
